Head of Engineering
The Head of Engineering is a strategic leadership role responsible for leading, scaling, and continuously developing the engineering organization. The role oversees technological vision, technical execution, engineering culture, and team growth to deliver high-quality digital solutions aligned with the company’s business objectives.
The position is part of the company’s technology leadership and works closely with the CEO, CIO, and Tech Board.
Key responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Ownership of the technology strategy and architecture across projects and products
- Collaboration on defining and executing the Engineering Strategy
- Oversight of technical delivery – quality, stability, maintainability, development efficiency, and time-to-market
- Defining engineering standards, best practices, and modern development processes
- Responsibility for engineering excellence – code quality, security, scalability, observability, and technical debt management
- Setting, tracking, and evaluating engineering metrics and KPIs
- Identifying and implementing modern engineering approaches, automation, and AI-assisted development tools to improve development efficiency
Leadership and Team Development
- Leading Team Leads and supporting their professional growth
- Mentoring and developing senior technical roles
- Building an engineering culture focused on ownership, quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Performance management, support for cross-team collaboration, and alignment across teams
- Participation in defining the organizational structure of engineering teams
Hiring and Scaling the Organization
- Responsibility for capacity planning and scaling the engineering organization
- Participation in hiring senior technical and leadership roles
- Collaboration with HR on hiring strategy, onboarding, and development plans
Operations and Business Collaboration
- Active collaboration with project management, business development, and operations management
- Reporting to company leadership on delivery status, technological risks, and capacity needs
- Evaluating technical decisions from the perspective of business impact, delivery efficiency, and long-term sustainability
- Participation in strategic client discussions, pre-sales activities, and technology consulting
- Leadership during critical technological incidents and delivery escalations
- Representing the company externally through industry events, networking, knowledge sharing, and community activities
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience leading multiple development teams in SaaS, digital product, or modern software house environments
- Experience scaling teams, processes, and engineering organizations
- Strong technical background and ability to make architectural and technological decisions
- Experience with agile methodologies and modern software development lifecycle practices
- Ability to combine strategic thinking with hands-on leadership and execution
- Experience setting up engineering processes, delivery standards, and metrics
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trust across teams, management, and clients
- Strong focus on quality, ownership, efficiency, and long-term sustainability of solutions
