Secure Web Platform and Infrastructure for Europe’s Satellite Data Organization

European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) is an organization responsible for monitoring weather, oceans, and climate from space. It operates a network of satellites that collect crucial data used by meteorologists, scientists, and decision-makers. Thanks to its efforts, storms can be predicted more accurately, climate change can be better understood, and communities can be protected through the use of real-time information.

EUMETSAT placed a strong emphasis on security and documentation. As their website provides critical information for European partners, it has become a frequent target of attacks from state-level actors and hacker groups, particularly those based in Eastern regions. Our team took over the existing solution from a previous provider, ensuring top-level security, following standardized processes, and maintaining proper documentation were therefore key priorities.

We delivered a robust, secure website built on Drupal, hosted on Microsoft Azure, and backed by an Azure Blob database. The platform was designed for long-term reliability, high performance, and strict compliance with EUMETSAT’s requirements and standards. The result is a stable, easily maintainable solution that is expected to serve the organization’s needs, offering both resilience against cyber threats and a positive user experience across Europe.

We started with a detailed review of the existing website, prepared environments on T4 Private Cloud and Microsoft Azure, and managed the migration from AWS. The process included infrastructure setup, Drupal adjustments, and thorough security and performance testing. Regular stand-ups and sync meetings kept communication efficient and the project moving smoothly, while the client had full visibility in progress. 

The newly updated EUMETSAT website now operates on a modern, secure infrastructure designed for long-term reliability and simplified maintenance. The platform meets the organization’s strict requirements while ensuring high performance and protection against cyber threats. It provides a dependable digital foundation for EUMETSAT’s communication and collaboration with partners across Europe.
